Lately I’ve been in a funk at work. It’s the wierdest thing. I mean- I like everything about my job- the people I work with, the hours, the kids…did I say the hours??? But there has been something “eating” at me for the past two weeks. I can’t put my finger on it-I just know that I haven’t been enjoying my job as much as I did in the past. Part of me thinks that I am missing the challenge and that my job feels stagnate. This is my 5th year at the same school and I feel like I have settled into a “rut”. Anyone else ever feel this way? Anyone have any suggestions? I really don’t want to leave my school. I mean where else can I work only 4 days a week, have time off for spring break, christmas break…not to mention a fall break. And like I said- I LOVE the people I work with. Maybe this is just a funk that will disappear in a couple of days. Whatever it is- I’m ready to be over it!

It’s called February, and it usually hits me every year. I get a case of SAD (season affective disorder) or winter depression. Once the birds start singing, and the daffodils start popping, I’m much better. Hang in there. March is just a few weeks away.

My “rut” usually hits after 3 years with the same company. I jump ship after 3 - for the same reasons…it gets boring/less challenging etc. and I can usually tell if it’s good for my career after 3 years. Maybe it’s time for a change? Mix it up a bit?

I’ve felt this way too. That’s why I chose to move grade levels for a change of pace (not to mention my sanity). Could this funk possibly be stemming from the feeling of disappointment about the college position being filled? On a different note, Dena brought up a good point. I think this time of year tends to be long and depressing. Have the last two warm days perked you up a bit?

Well, look at it like this - at least it is just a rut. At least you are not being ‘harassed’ or feel like you are working in hell. It could be worst. Also, maybe you could look into a conference to attend or investigate some new project you could bring to the school. We are always looking for something new.
