My Birtdhay and the Glucose test
January 25, 2006

Well, today I had my 3 hour glucose tolerance test. Let me begin this blog by saying, that my sister also had this test a few weeks ago and did not have the best experience. When she took the test, she became dehydrated and therefore had a difficult time finding a vein to draw blood. So learning from her mistake, I decided to make sure I was “hydrated” before taking my test. Now, I should tell you that my doctor’s office did say to not eat or drink anything after midnight…but shouldn’t water be o.k.?
So now, back to my appointmant this morning. I showed up at 8:30 am with a bottle of water in my hand. Now mind you, I had drank a little bit of the water on my ride to the appointment. When the nurse called me back to begin the test, she “eye balled” my water bottle and asked if I had drank any. I fessed up and said yes. She immediately said that I couldn’t go through with the test and that I would have to reschedule for another day. Well, this did not make me happy in the least, especially considering the fact that I had taken off a day of work to come to this appointment and besides it was only a tiny bit of water. What difference should that make? I of course began throwing the nurse an attitude and when I was at the point of being close to tears, the nurse finally said that if I wanted her to, she could ask the doctor. I, as you might imagine, begged her to ask him. Luckily, Dr. Godsey said that it was fine.
3 hours and 4 needle pricks later, I finished the test. Now I just have to wait until tomorrow to find out the result. I hope that I passed.
Oh…and thank you Dr. Godsey for keeping me from crying on my birthday. I owe him big time!
